The importance of conserving water

Over 70% of the earth is covered in water, so why is it so important to conserve this resource? Here are a few important facts about water on this planet from the U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Reclamation:

  • 97% of all water on the earth is salt water, which is not suitable for drinking.
  • Only 3% of water on Earth is freshwater, and only 0.5% is available for drinking.
  • The other 2.5% of freshwater is locked in ice caps, glaciers, the atmosphere, soil, or under the earth's surface, or is too polluted for consumption.

With growing population rates and such a small percentage of all the water on Earth fit for consumption, it only makes sense that we must preserve and conserve this precious resource.

Water conservation means using our limited water supply wisely and caring for it properly. Since we all depend on water to sustain life, it is our responsibility to know more about water conservation and how we can help keep our sources pure and safe for generations to come.

UN Global Goal Number 6 Clean Water and Sanitation has the goal to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

This means don’t overuse water. Make sure to close a tap when washing dishes and brushing your teeth, take short showers, fill your washing machine and cut down on the loads. Consider getting a water meter to be aware of your water usage.

How Nordifakts Antibacterial products can help conserve water

Even though newer washing machines can wash faster and with less water and power usage, this doesn’t affect how frequently your regular home items need washingNot to mention, odors sometimes persist on fabrics even after a run through the wash cycle.

It may sound too good to be true, but thanks to the unmatched antibacterial protection of the fabric in our antibacterial bedding and towels, you can actually cut back on laundry! The silver salt treatment in all Nordifakt products keep your linen cleaner and fresher for longer. It also blocks odor-causing microorganisms that may persist on your towels and beddings long after cleaning.

Not to mention that since the two compounds (silver and salt) are naturally occurring, it’s environmentally safe.

Typically, standard towels need washing at 60° Celsius (140° Fahrenheit) to completely kill off accumulated germs. Each load of laundry also uses a whopping 44 liters (11.6 gallons) of water! Between the energy expenses and water waste, continually washing traditional towels so frequently is terrible for the environment.

Because of their antibacterial qualities, Nordifakt products need to be washed a lot less often than regular home textiles, you can actually skip every 2-4 load by switching to Nordifakt's antibacterial home textiles, saving you a lot of water, in fact if we skipped every other wash load worldwide, we could save approximately 235 million tons of carbon dioxide and 22.5 billion cubic meters (nearly 6 trillion gallons) of water per year.

In addition the laundry cycle is the number one culprit for wear and tear on your linens and towels and by washing less you can extend the lifespan of your home textiles.
