FAQ
technology
Yes. All Polygiene treatments have undergone extensive sensitivity testing and are completely safe – even for long-term use. Polygiene StayFresh™ is only active in the material and therefore does not affect the natural bacteria on the skin.
The technology we use in all our products is called Stay Fresh and is supplied by Polygiene®. It is based on silver salts (specifically silver chloride) and is applied to the garment as a dye. Due to the chemical structure of the molecules, only a very small amount of silver chloride is required to treat an entire garment. In fact, an average silver ring contains enough silver for 5,000 Polygiene® treatments!
All products are OEKO-TEX® certified. Our technology partner, Polygiene, is both OEKO-TEX® and BlueSign approved.
It is recommended to wash regular towels at 60 degrees to kill bacteria, and most people then tumble dry their towels. Our products only need to be washed at 30 degrees or lower and can be washed and tumble dried far less often than regular textiles. This can save you around 2,000 kg of CO₂ per year – the equivalent of a flight from London to Berlin.
Your washing machine uses 44 liters of water every time you wash clothes (@Bolius 2019).
For example: If you are a family of 4 and normally wash one load of towels per week, you will be able to save up to 1,800 liters of water per year.
Because we don't think you'll wash your towels more than once a month (maybe even less often), this means you can save at least 75% on your towel washing.
Products
We produce in Portugal, in factories we know and have visited ourselves. It is important to us to have responsible conditions for both workers and textiles.
Because we want to move away from the use of microfiber and with Polygiene technology we can make the cotton towels stay fresh for a long time and at the same time have a more comfortable and naturally soft surface to the touch.
We always recommend washing Nordifakt products at low/cold temperatures and with a mild detergent. As there are no bacteria to kill, there is no need for high temperatures during washing.
Our recommendation for drying is to either air dry or dry at a low temperature in the dryer.
Avoid using bleach and wash with similar materials to avoid thread pulling.
Are we doing what we can?
We donate defective or faulty products to a homeless shelter in Copenhagen called MorgenCafe for the Homeless.
